From 6 April 2011, anyone wanting to apply for a Court Order linked to children or the financial circumstances relating to the breakdown of their relationship will first be expected to have attended a Mediation Information & Assessment Meeting (MIAM).

What is the purpose of the meeting?

At the assessment meeting, which normally lasts about 45 minutes, we will provide you with information about the mediation process and other ways of resolving family disputes.

If you decide that mediation would be the best process for you and we assess you as suitable for mediation then we will act as your mediator.

Who is expected to attend the assessment meeting?

In most cases we conduct separate assessment meetings. Once we have met with you we will contact your spouse/partner to invite them to a separate meeting.

How much will this cost and how quickly can we arrange a meeting?

We charge £80 plus VAT for the assessment meeting. This includes preparation of the form FM1 which is the form you will be required to lodge with the Court as evidence that you have met with a mediator. We can normally offer you an appointment within 24 hours of you contacting us. We can meet with you in the evening or at weekends – we charge £120 + vat for a meeting outside of our normal office hours.
